Amps
An ampere (AMP) is the unit used to measure electric current. Current is a count of the number of electrons flowing through a circuit. One amp is the amount of current produced by a force of one volt acting through the resistance of one ohm.
Built-in electric fireplace
Unlike fireplace inserts which require venting and are inserted into existing FireSpaces™, built-in fireplaces are electric units that can be built/recessed into walls, furniture, and other entities
Catalytic Wood-burning fireplaces/stoves
A catalytic wood stove uses a catalytic combustor to re-burn the gasses and particulates that are released from the burning wood. These gasses pass through the catalytic combustor, which operates at very high temperatures, and combust, providing increased efficiency, fewer emissions, and longer burn times. Catalytic wood-burning fireplaces/stoves are ideal if being used as the primary heat source in a home due to their ability to burn longer.
CSA approved
Any fireplace marked ‘CSA Approved’ means that it has been examined and rigorously tested for safety to applicable standards as set out by the Canadian Standards Association Group and other global entities.
EPA certified
Referring specifically to wood-burning fireplaces and stoves, EPA Certified means that the Environmental Protection Agency has rigorously examined and tested the design and operation of a unit to confirm that it produces emissions below 4.5 g/h.
Fireplace Insert
A fireplace insert is a natural gas, propane, electric, or wood-burning firebox with a closed combustion that can be inserted into an existing FireSpace™.
FireSpace™
FireSpace™ is a trade-marked term exclusive to Maxwell Fireplace that refers to the entire internal area and façade that encompasses a fireplace.
Free-standing fireplace/stove
Free-standing stoves do not require any framing or finishing. They are not limited to being installed in specific areas of existing structures, giving you more flexibility in their placement.
Fresh air intake
Fresh air is an external air intake on the fireplace where air is drawn from outside the house and doesn’t disturb the air quality inside the house.
Natural gas
Natural gas is a natural source of hydrocarbon gas and a mixture of multiple other gases.
Non-catalytic Wood-burning fireplaces/stoves
A non-catalytic wood stove uses air tubes and super-heated oxygen to mix with and generate a secondary burn with the gasses and particulates released from burning wood. This results in a fewer emissions and greater efficiency. These units are well-suited to those seeking a straight-forward, traditional wood burning fireplace/stove for supplemental heat rather than a primary heat source.
Propane
Propane is a green energy-efficient fuel also known as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
Volts
Voltage is pressure, measured in Volts, from an electrical circuit’s power source that pushes electrical currents through a conducting loop enabling anything electrical to work.
Zero-clearance
Zero-clearance fireplaces are pre-manufactured units or fireboxes that can be placed almost directly against combustible materials such as wood, walls, or paneling because the unit is built using materials that don’t allow the outside of it to get hot enough to burn other materials within the FireSpace™. This eliminates the need for a buffer zone and allows the fireplace to fit into much smaller openings.
