Focus® Ergofocus Holographik® — Electric Fire, Without the Fire

Focus® fires have hung fire in the middle of the room since 1968. This one does it electrically — holographic flames, no flue, no fuel, nothing burning at all.

In 1983, the French sculptor Dominique Imbert drew the Ergofocus: a suspended, pivoting hearth built on the heretical idea that a fireplace ought to occupy the middle of a room, and be free to turn. Four decades on, the silhouette is still in production — still unmistakably modern. The Holographik® is what happens when that sculpture meets the next forty years.

There is no fire in this fireplace. The flames are produced in three dimensions by a holographic system, dancing over naturalistic ceramic logs; the sound is the familiar crackle of wood, indistinguishable from the real thing. No flue. No fuel. No emissions. A standard wall socket, and it is alive.

Which makes this, in the plainest terms, an electric fireplace — though the phrase does it no favours. Where most electric fires settle for a flat panel of light behind glass, the Holographik® is a Focus® sculpture first, hung and pivoting in the middle of the room, with the flame rendered in three dimensions rather than printed on a screen. It is the answer for anyone who has searched for a Focus electric fire and assumed no such thing existed.

That makes it the first fireplace we can install almost anywhere — top-floor apartments, low-carbon homes, restaurants and lobbies where a chimney was never going to be possible. It is, by some distance, the most interesting object we have shown anyone in a long time. We are not entirely certain whether to call it a fireplace or a small piece of theatre. We are certain that, the first time you see it, you will understand.

Questions people tend to ask

Are there electric Focus® fires?

There are — though most people assume otherwise, because Focus® fires made their name on wood and gas. The Holographik® range is the electric answer, and the Ergofocus Holographik® on this page is the suspended, pivoting one. Same French sculpture, same silhouette, no combustion.

Is the Focus® Holographik® an electric fireplace?

Yes. It runs from an ordinary household socket and burns nothing at all — no wood, no gas, no ethanol. In the strictest sense it is an electric fire; in every other sense it behaves like a hearth, because the flame is a three-dimensional holographic projection over ceramic logs rather than a lit panel behind glass.

Does it need a flue or a chimney?

No. There is no combustion, so there is no flue, no gas line, no venting and no clearance to a chimney. That is the whole point of it: a Focus® silhouette in an apartment, a heritage building, a passive house or a restaurant where a real fire was never going to be permitted.

Does it give off heat?

It is designed as a visual and acoustic fire rather than a heating appliance. If warmth is the priority, we will happily point you toward the gas and wood models in the Focus® fires collection instead — that conversation is what we are here for.

Where can I see a Focus® electric fire in Vancouver?

In our showroom in North Vancouver, from September 2026. We serve the North Shore, Vancouver, and the Sea to Sky corridor, and we are glad to arrange a quiet hour with it outside of showroom traffic.
