The first real cold snap has a way of arriving on an ordinary evening, often the same night the power flickers and someone reaches for the remote. If you own a Valor gas fireplace, there is one small job worth doing before that night comes: changing the batteries.
A Valor is built to keep working when the lights go out, and the batteries are the reason. One set sits in the remote in your hand. Another sits in a receiver beside the firebox, or inside the wall switch if your fireplace has the Remote Battery & Wall Switch. Valor suggests fresh batteries once a year, and autumn, before the heating season begins, is the easiest time to remember.
The beeping that means “change me”
If you press the button to light the fire and the fireplace answers with a burst of rapid beeping, lasting about three seconds, that is Valor’s signal that the batteries in the receiver are low. It is the receiver’s four AA batteries that need changing, not the one in your remote. Change those, and try again.
Which batteries go where
The receiver takes four AA alkaline batteries. The remote depends on which one you have: two AAA in a Valor 10, or a single 9V in a Valor Plus or Max. Valor recommends Duracell or Energizer alkaline, and says remote batteries typically last one to two cold seasons; taking them out for the warm months helps them last.
Everything in one place
We have put it all into one guide, Valor remotes and batteries, explained. It shows how to tell which of Valor’s four remotes you have, a chart of the batteries each one takes, step-by-step photographs for the receiver, the wall switch and the remote, and short answers to the questions people tend to ask before they call anyone.
If Maxwell Fireplace installed your Valor and it still misbehaves once the batteries are fresh, give us a call. Beyond a change of batteries, Valor says the next step belongs with a qualified technician, and we are glad to look after the fireplaces we have installed. If yours was installed elsewhere, your installing dealer or Valor can point you in the right direction.
A change of batteries is the smallest part of the care that comes with a Creative FireSpace™ from Maxwell Fireplace, and the one you can do yourself, in about ten minutes, before the weather turns.
